Jeep CRD Diesel Information
In the North American market, Jeep has offered two diesel-powered vehicles. The Jeep Liberty CRD, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD. CRD stands for Common Rail Diesel.
Jeep Liberty CRD
The first was the Jeep Liberty CRD. The Jeep Liberty diesel, the first diesel-powered mid-size SUV to be offered in the United States was introduced for the 2005 model year. It was powered by a 2.8L four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine and automatic transmission. The Liberty CRD was only made available until the end of 2006. It's rated fuel economy was 22 mpg city, 27 mpg highway (US). It's said that the engine could not meet tough diesel emmissions standards in place in 2007.

Diesels are very popular in Europe so Jeep (DaimlerChrysler) decided to test the waters in the US for diesel-powered SUVs. It was a big success, so they introduced the Grand Cherokee CRD.
Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD
Based on the success of the Liberty diesel, Jeep offered a diesel-powered Grand Cherokee for the 2007 & 2008 model years. It was equipped with a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel engine.

- Fuel Economy: 19 mpg city, 23 mpg highway
